So far…

So my cat, Luci, thought he would help me prepare for my Pecha Kucha by being my typist. Needless to say he is now looking for new employment.
The topic I decided on is Minimalism. I thought I would look at where it started and work my way to where it is going today. I came across a Russian painter named Kazmir Malevich who is said to have produced the first minimalist styled artwork entitled Black Square in 1913. I would like to talk a bit more about his work and the other artists that followed suit due to their dissatisfaction with what was known at the time as Action Painting that incorporated spontaneous gestural painting. But I will see how it goes as I am not entirely sure of the direction I want my research to go.
I have also found some information on the De Stijl art movement, Architect Van Der Rohe and traditional Japanese design that has been influenced by the idea of less is more. I hope to incorporate these ideas into my presentation in the lead up to what minimalism is today, which is a lifestyle.
I am still working on the presentation slides and which imagery I will use to accompany my research. Updates to come.
